Love your ECS!

How does the cannabis plant help so many different medical conditions? How can it provide both relaxing and therapeutic actions? How can it be so safe for consumption, while offering such powerful effects?
The search to answer these questions led scientists in the 1990s to the discovery of the endocannabinoid system (ECS). This physiologic system is a central component of the health and healing of every human and almost every animal. Our ECS establishes and maintains human health. Endocannabinoids and their receptors are found throughout our body including the brain, various organs, connective tissues, glands and immune cells. In each tissue, the ECS performs different tasks, but the goal is always the same--homeostasis, the maintenance of a stable internal environment despite changes in the external environment.
Its complex actions in our immune system, nervous system, and all of the body’s organs is literally a bond between body and mind. By understanding our ECS, we begin to see a system that explains how states of consciousness can promote health or disease.
Endocannabinoids assist in our survival in a rapidly changing and increasingly hostile environment. Cannabis helps us prevent disease and promotes health by stimulating our ECS that is hardwired into all of us. Research has shown that small doses of cannabinoids from cannabis can signal the body to make more endocannabinoids and build more cannabinoid receptors.
So why do so many physicians fail to recommend this healing botanical substance? How about the fact that they are not even taught about the ECS in medical school?! Like WTF?! Our current medical system is more comfortable with single, isolated substances that can be swallowed or injected. As we know, this significantly limits the therapeutic potential of cannabinoids and cannabis medicine.
Using cannabis as a treatment on the widest variety of human diseases and conditions was well known in ancient India, China, and Tibet, and thankfully is becoming increasingly well known by Western science. So proudly show your ECS some love. Happy blazing cannabis warriors.
